Collaborative Science Model

Science Committee

The ASRJV Science Committee is a collection of the top wild Atlantic salmon researchers in North America.

Management Board

The JV Management Board brings together the top decision-makers and leaders of Atlantic salmon research organizations.
The Science Committee, with direction from the management board, defines Research Priorities that then guide the development of Priority Hypotheses for student projects. The management board leverages funding for these projects through a variety of grand agencies.
Research priorities
Mobilization of historical data
Marine mortality
Linking freshwater and marine environments
Priority hypotheses
Graduate, PhD and postgraduate researchers enrolled in the JV Student Hub design research to pursue one or more of the priority hypotheses under the supervision of an academic member of the JV Science Committee.
KEY INITIATIVE
The Data Mobilization Program
A first-of-it's-kind information sharing initiative, the Joint Venture's Data Mobilization Program is working to identify, catalog, digitize, standardize and share unused existing Atlantic salmon data across the East Coast over a 3-year timeline. The Joint Venture will partner with existing open access databases to host the information and increase the accessibility of Atlantic salmon data.

Year 1

Data Identification
Establish a working group to identify existing data sets, create an inventory based on location, subject matter, format (digital/non-digital)

Year 2

Standardizing Data
Contract a team of data specialists to facilitate the standardization and digitization of existing salmon data

Year 3

Making Data Available
Partner with existing open-access databases (ex. RivTemp, AST Sal-Hub, DFO portal, etc.) to host the data
